Aquaman #12

Aquaman #12, published by DC Comics in November 1963, arrived during the Silver Age of comics when the character was transitioning from a niche backup feature to a headline title. This issue is part of the long-running series spearheaded by writer Jack Miller and artist Nick Cardy, whose distinct aesthetic defined the character's underwater world for a generation. It reflects the era's focus on imaginative, sci-fi infused ocean adventures that leaned into the peculiar ecology of Atlantis.

The creative team utilized the issue to expand the lore surrounding the undersea kingdom and Aquaman's ongoing struggle to balance his dual heritage. Nick Cardy's cover work and internal pencils were highly regarded at the time for their fluid, kinetic depiction of underwater movement, a stylistic choice that helped ground the character’s fantastical powers within a recognizable superhero framework. The issue is remembered today for its contribution to building the foundational mythos that modernized the hero for 1960s readers.
