Where it came from
Atashi no Onii-chan wa Dachō Desu, or My Big Brother is an Ostrich, is a niche manga series that emerged from the eccentric landscape of late 1980s and early 1990s Japanese alternative comics. The series is known for its surrealist humor and absurd premise, utilizing the stark contrast between human familial dynamics and the incongruous presence of an ostrich to explore themes of identity and domestic strangeness.
The art style of the debut volume reflects the experimental editorial trends of the era, where publishers often commissioned titles that pushed the boundaries of traditional gag manga. While the author remains a relatively obscure figure within the broader manga canon, the work is frequently cited by collectors of cult media for its commitment to a bizarre, singular vision that defies standard genre tropes.
