Where it came from
Avengers: Lionheart of Avalon #1 was published by Marvel Comics in 2005 as a limited series centering on Kelsey Leigh, a character who had been introduced in the main Avengers title. This story arc was designed to explore her transition into the mantle of Captain Britain after she was resurrected and empowered by the magical sword of the Black Knight, serving as a direct follow-up to the dramatic conclusion of the 'Avengers Disassembled' crossover event.
The series was written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Javier Saltares. The creative team aimed to ground the high-fantasy elements of British folklore within the contemporary, gritty tone that Marvel was cultivating in the mid-2000s. While it was received as a niche addition to the broader Avengers mythos, it remains a notable chapter for fans of the Captain Britain legacy and those interested in how the publisher navigated the aftermath of the Avengers' significant team shake-up.
