Where it came from
Released in 2002 as part of the Avengers Icons miniseries, this issue continues a four-part story focused on the synthezoid Avenger, the Vision. Marvel Comics launched the Icons imprint during this period to spotlight individual members of the Avengers team, allowing for more character-driven narratives outside of the main team-up titles. The series was designed to explore the Vision's complex history and his struggle to reconcile his artificial nature with his human emotions.
The issue was written by Geoff Johns with interior art by Ivan Reis, who was tasked with establishing a distinct visual identity for the character. Reis aimed for a sleek, modern aesthetic that emphasized the Vision's mechanical internal structure while maintaining a sense of melancholy. The series was generally well-received by fans and critics of the era for its introspective tone and for providing a deeper look at the Vision’s personal motivations following his departure from the main Avengers roster.
