Where it came from
Published in June 1966 by DC Comics, Batman #181 serves as a milestone in comic book history as the first appearance of Pamela Isley, better known as the villain Poison Ivy. The issue was created during the height of the 1960s Batman television craze, reflecting the era's shift toward more campy and colorful character designs under the editorial guidance of Julius Schwartz.
The cover and interior art were provided by Carmine Infantino, a pivotal figure in the Silver Age of comics who was instrumental in modernizing Batman's aesthetic. Infantino aimed to introduce a more contemporary and alluring visual language for the new villain, blending traditional crime-fighting narratives with the era's fascination with iconic, eccentric antagonists.
