Where it came from
Published by DC Comics in December 1966, Batman #187 appeared during a transitional period for the character. By the mid-1960s, the immense popularity of the Batman television series influenced the tone of the comic books, leaning toward a campier, lighter aesthetic. This issue serves as a quintessential example of the Silver Age era, where writers and artists balanced traditional detective narratives with the vibrant, imaginative storytelling that defined the period.
The issue features cover art and interior work consistent with the DC house style of the mid-sixties, heavily influenced by editors like Julius Schwartz. The narrative and visual direction sought to maintain reader interest through self-contained adventures and dynamic character interactions. While it is not as frequently cited as major key issues of the decade, it remains a notable snapshot of the expansive Batman mythos during a time when the character's cultural footprint was undergoing significant evolution.
