Batman Beyond #17

Batman Beyond #17, published in July 2012, belongs to the digital-first series that sought to expand the futuristic world established by the acclaimed animated television series. This era of the comic was designed to bridge the gap between the show's legacy and the broader DC Universe, offering stories that balanced the cyberpunk aesthetics of Neo-Gotham with the evolving challenges faced by Terry McGinnis. It was produced during a period when DC Comics was experimenting with new distribution models and tone-shifting narratives for their established animated properties.

The issue features creative contributions from writer Adam Beechen and various artists consistent with the series' house style, which prioritized dynamic, clean lines to reflect the show’s original visual identity. The narrative arc within this issue focuses on the tension between Bruce Wayne’s mentorship and Terry’s autonomy, a core dynamic that defined the comic's reception among fans of the television show. Critics generally praised the series for maintaining the atmospheric tone of the cartoon while successfully adapting the medium to a sequential art format.
