Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #4

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #4 is the concluding chapter of a prestige four-issue limited series written and illustrated by Rafael Grampá, released in 2023. Developed under DC Comics' Black Label imprint, the series was designed to explore a darker, more visceral iteration of the Batman mythos. Grampá sought to strip away the traditional gadgets and support systems of the character, focusing instead on a psychological transformation where Bruce Wayne begins to fully surrender his identity to the persona of the Batman, viewing it as his true self.

The visual language of the series is heavily influenced by international noir, expressionist cinema, and gritty underground comics, characterized by heavy line work and distorted, claustrophobic urban perspectives. Upon its release, the project was noted for its distinct departure from mainstream continuity, with critics highlighting Grampá’s unique aesthetic vision and the philosophical depth he brought to the character's internal conflict. It has been widely regarded as a stylized auteur piece that serves as both an homage to classic Batman lore and a radical subversion of it.
