Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham Noir Edition #4

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham, written and illustrated by Rafael Grampá, was released by DC Comics as a prestige miniseries beginning in 2023. The project was conceived as an auteur-driven interpretation of the Batman mythos, focusing on an alternate, grittier vision of Gotham City where Bruce Wayne has permanently abandoned his human identity to fully embrace the mantle of the Dark Knight. The Noir Edition specifically highlights Grampá’s intricate, hyper-detailed linework by presenting the art in stark black and white, stripped of color to emphasize the raw intensity of his character designs and atmospheric environments.

The aesthetic of the series draws heavily from German Expressionism and classic noir cinema, aiming to capture a visceral, psychological depth that differentiates it from standard ongoing DC continuity. Rafael Grampá, a celebrated Brazilian cartoonist known for his stylized and kinetic approach to sequential art, designed the series to feel like a definitive, self-contained legend. Upon release, the series was received by critics and readers as a bold stylistic departure that pushed the visual boundaries of the superhero genre, solidifying its status as a notable entry in the modern library of Batman standalone graphic novels.
