Big Comic Zōkan #1670

Big Comic Zōkan is a specialized spin-off publication of the long-running seinen manga anthology Big Comic, published by Shogakukan. The Zōkan editions are traditionally released as supplemental issues that feature a curated selection of serials, often highlighting specific themes or spotlighting particular manga artists alongside the main magazine's roster. By the time of the #1670 issue, the publication had long cemented its reputation as a sophisticated venue for mature, character-driven storytelling that leans into historical, social, and professional narratives.

The editorial direction for these issues is managed by Shogakukan’s senior editorial teams, who prioritize high-quality illustration and narrative depth, often pairing established mangaka with newer, experimental talent. The design philosophy of the Big Comic brand emphasizes a classic, slightly understated aesthetic that distinguishes it from the more frenetic styles of shōnen or shōjo manga. Issue #1670 continues this tradition of providing a dense, literary experience for a dedicated adult readership, reflecting the broader mission of the brand to act as a permanent record of mid-to-late career creative output for its contributors.
