Big Comic Zōkan #681

Big Comic Zōkan is a long-running Japanese seinen manga anthology published by Shogakukan, designed as a supplemental offshoot of the flagship Big Comic magazine. Issue #681 belongs to a tradition of experimental and thematic storytelling that distinguishes the Zōkan editions from the main monthly publication. These issues typically serve as a testing ground for newer talent or as curated collections focusing on specific genres, allowing creators to explore narrative depths that cater to a more mature, discerning readership accustomed to the grounded, often melancholic realism associated with the Big Comic brand.

The aesthetic and editorial direction of these issues generally adhere to the sophisticated, understated visual language established by Shogakukan throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The magazine has historically championed a fusion of traditional gekiga influences with contemporary social commentary. While individual issues like #681 are treated as ephemeral collectibles, their value lies in the preservation of serialized works and short stories by influential manga artists who have shaped the industry's evolution through minimalist framing and dense, character-driven scripts.
