BL Forever vs. No More BL #5

BL Forever vs. No More BL emerged during the mid-2010s within the independent small-press comics scene, specifically reflecting the vibrant, often polarized discourse surrounding the Boys' Love (BL) genre. This series was crafted as a meta-commentary, utilizing the medium of a fanzine or anthology to explore the tension between the genre's devoted fan base and its critics. The fifth issue specifically captures a snapshot of the creative friction common in self-published zine culture, where contributors often sought to reconcile the problematic tropes of older BL narratives with the progressive sensibilities of newer, more diverse readerships.

The design and illustration of the series rely heavily on the aesthetic conventions of contemporary underground manga, emphasizing raw, expressive linework over polished production values. Contributors often opted for a collaborative, open-submission style to mirror the communal nature of online fan forums. Upon its release, the fifth issue was primarily received within niche literary and comic enthusiast circles, where it was lauded for providing a platform for complex, non-commercial discussions that mainstream publishing outlets were largely ignoring at the time.
