Black Panther #2

Black Panther #2 was published in 1977 as part of the character's first ongoing solo series, titled Black Panther, which was written and illustrated by Jack Kirby. Coming over a decade after T'Challa's debut in Fantastic Four, this series aimed to lean into the adventure and sci-fi elements that defined Kirby's post-Marvel return. The story follows T'Challa as he faces the threat of the Collector and delves deeper into the technological marvels of Wakanda, cementing the kingdom's aesthetic as a blend of ancient tradition and futuristic innovation.

Jack Kirby returned to Marvel Comics in 1975, and his run on Black Panther is noted for its idiosyncratic tone and high-concept storytelling. Rather than focusing on urban social commentary, Kirby utilized the series to explore expansive, pulp-inspired arcs involving time travel and lost civilizations. While the series was not a massive commercial success at the time, it has since been reassessed by critics and fans for its bold visual creativity and the foundational work it performed in expanding the lore of both the character and the nation of Wakanda.
