Blade of the Immortal #129

Blade of the Immortal #129 is part of the long-running seinen manga series written and illustrated by Hiroaki Samura. Serialized in Monthly Afternoon beginning in 1993, the story follows Manji, a rōnin cursed with immortality, as he aids a young girl named Rin on her quest for vengeance. The series is celebrated for Samura’s distinctive, raw artistic style, which frequently utilizes pencil sketches and unique ink work that departs from the polished aesthetic typical of mainstream manga.

Issue #129 falls late in the series' publication run, reflecting the dark, complex narrative trajectory that defined the later arcs. By this point in the story, Samura’s composition had evolved into highly detailed, kinetic action sequences that pushed the boundaries of the medium. The series remains critically acclaimed for its moral ambiguity and philosophical inquiries regarding violence, securing its reputation as a seminal work in modern samurai fiction.
