Blade of the Immortal #131

Blade of the Immortal was created by manga artist Hiroaki Samura and originally serialized in Afternoon magazine beginning in 1993. The series follows Manji, a skilled samurai cursed with immortality, who must kill one thousand evil men to regain his mortal state. The series is celebrated for its distinctive black-and-white ink aesthetic, which incorporates unconventional brushwork that mimics traditional Japanese sumi-e painting while maintaining the kinetic energy of modern action comics.

Issue #131 belongs to the later stages of this expansive, long-running seinen manga. By this point in the narrative, Samura had firmly established his reputation for complex, cinematic panel layouts and historical detail. The issue reflects the mature tone of the series, focusing on the intricate character dynamics and philosophical questions surrounding violence and redemption that define the work’s legacy as a landmark in historical fiction manga.
