Where it came from
Blake and Mortimer issue number seven, titled The Affair of the Necklace, was created by Edgar P. Jacobs. It stands as a significant entry in the long-running Belgian comics series, which debuted in the immediate post-war era of the late 1940s. The series was deeply rooted in the Ligne Claire style, characterized by clean lines and an emphasis on narrative clarity, reflecting the meticulous storytelling sensibilities that defined the Golden Age of Franco-Belgian comics.
The narrative follows the adventures of Philip Mortimer, a scientist, and Captain Francis Blake of MI5, as they confront various technological threats and mysteries. Jacobs, who worked closely with Hergé, infused these stories with high-stakes science fiction and intricate plots. The series has been widely praised for its complex pacing and atmospheric urban settings, cementing its status as a foundational pillar of European graphic literature.
