Where it came from
Blake og Mortimers Klassiske Eventyr #1 is a Danish-language release centered on the iconic adventures of Philip Mortimer and Francis Blake. Originally created by the Belgian artist Edgar P. Jacobs in 1946 for the weekly Tintin magazine, the series is a cornerstone of Franco-Belgian comics, known for its dense, novelistic scripts and meticulous, architectural drawing style. This specific Danish collection was curated to introduce new generations to the sophisticated, science-fiction infused detective narratives that define Jacobs' legacy.
The design of the series adheres to the ligne claire tradition, characterized by clear outlines and strong colors, an aesthetic perfected by Jacobs during his close collaboration with Hergé. While these collections serve as modern entry points for readers, they remain faithful to the original compositions which were initially conceived as serial installments. Upon their inception, the adventures were celebrated for their intellectual rigor and cinematic framing, setting a high standard for European graphic literature that continues to influence the medium today.
