Boule et Bill #1

Boule et Bill first appeared in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Spirou in 1959. Created by the cartoonist Jean Roba, the series focused on the gentle, comedic interplay between a young boy named Boule and his exuberant Cocker Spaniel, Bill. The first collected volume, simply titled Boule et Bill, was published in 1962, capturing the domestic charm and observational humor that would define the series for decades to come.

Roba’s design for the duo was influenced by his own life, specifically the antics of his real-life Cocker Spaniel. He utilized a soft, rounded art style that emphasized the expressiveness of Bill’s long ears and the innocent curiosity of Boule. Upon its release, the collection was lauded for its focus on the simple pleasures of family life, cementing the series as a cornerstone of European children's comics and ensuring its enduring popularity across generations.
