Bruno Brazil #1

Bruno Brazil #1 made its debut in 1968 within the pages of the Franco-Belgian weekly comic magazine Pilote. Created by writer Greg, a prominent figure in European comics, and illustrated by William Vance, the series was designed as a modern espionage thriller. It followed the adventures of a suave American secret agent and his specialized team, the Commando Caïman, reflecting the cultural fascination with spy fiction and international intrigue that permeated the late 1960s.

The design of the series showcased William Vance's evolving mastery of realistic, detailed illustration, which moved away from the more caricatured styles common in the genre at the time. By grounding the visual narrative in gritty realism and cinematic pacing, Vance and Greg successfully carved out a niche for a more serious, mature action comic. The series received significant critical acclaim for its sophisticated storytelling and remains a touchstone for the development of the European action-adventure genre.
