Buck Godot - Zap Gun For Hire #5

Buck Godot: Zap Gun for Hire was created by cartoonist Phil Foglio and published by his company, Airship Entertainment, starting in the late 1980s. The series was designed as a humorous science fiction romp, following the exploits of a mercenary-for-hire in a universe teeming with absurd alien life and bureaucratic nightmares. Foglio, known for his distinctively expressive style and background in the early independent comics scene, crafted the series to balance slapstick comedy with intricate, imaginative world-building.

Issue number five represents a key installment in this satirical adventure, continuing Foglio’s long-standing interest in the intersection of pulp science fiction tropes and character-driven farce. The series was well-received by fans of the underground and independent comics community for its sharp wit and unconventional protagonist, who defied the typical stoic tropes of space-faring heroes. The artwork reflects Foglio's transition toward the highly detailed, Steampunk-influenced aesthetic that would later define his more widely known works, such as Girl Genius.
