Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Angel #1

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Angel #1 was published by Dark Horse Comics in 1999 as part of their expansion of the Buffyverse into print media. This debut issue served to bridge the narrative gaps between the television show's seasonal arcs, specifically focusing on the character of Angel as he transitioned into his own spin-off series. The comic was crafted to capitalize on the immense popularity of Joss Whedon's supernatural drama, providing fans with supplemental character development and backstories that could not be fully explored within the constraints of a weekly television broadcast.

The creative direction for this series was handled by writer Christopher Golden, who worked closely with Dark Horse to maintain the tone established by the show's creators. The visual style was intended to capture the gothic, moody atmosphere of Angel’s investigations in Los Angeles, utilizing detailed character renderings that aligned with the actors' likenesses. Upon release, the issue was well-received by the existing fan base, establishing a successful template for subsequent Buffyverse comics and solidifying the franchise's presence within the comic book industry.
