Where it came from
Released in 1999 as part of the initial expansion of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise into comic books, this issue was published by Dark Horse Comics. The series was designed to bridge the narrative gap between the television show’s episodes and provide deeper insight into the character of Angel, who was rapidly gaining popularity during the show's third season.
The issue was written by Christopher Golden, a long-time contributor to the Buffy expanded universe, with interior art by Christian Zanier. The creative team aimed to maintain the gothic, noir-influenced aesthetic of the television series while utilizing the comic medium to explore Angel's internal struggles. It was well-received by fans of the show at the time for its efforts to preserve the established tone and character voice during the franchise's early multimedia growth.
