Where it came from
By the Grace of the Gods, known in Japan as Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko, originated as a light novel series written by Roy and illustrated by Ririnra. The story follows Ryoma Takebayashi, a man who dies and is reincarnated in a fantasy world where he dedicates his life to researching slimes. The series gained significant traction on the user-generated publishing site Shōsetsuka ni Narō before being picked up for formal print publication by Hobby Japan starting in 2017.
The manga adaptation, which includes the ninth volume, features art by Ranran. This series has been praised for its gentle, slice-of-life approach to the isekai genre, focusing on low-stakes world-building and character development rather than traditional combat. The ninth volume continues the progression of Ryoma’s life in the new world, maintaining the series' signature soft aesthetic and wholesome tone that has helped it find a consistent audience among fans of restorative fantasy literature.
