Where it came from
Calexit #1, released in 2017 by Black Mask Studios, was written by Matteo Pizzolo and illustrated by Amancay Nahuelpan. The series was developed as a speculative political thriller set in a near-future California following the state's secession from the United States, reflecting the intense political climate and discourse surrounding American national identity during that period.
The Con Exclusive variant for issue #1 was produced specifically for comic convention distribution, serving as a limited-edition collectible to promote the series launch. Nahuelpan’s art style, characterized by gritty, kinetic visuals, was intended to evoke the chaotic atmosphere of an occupied region, and the series was generally noted for its provocative premise and alignment with contemporary social commentary.
