Cavewoman: Rain #1

Cavewoman: Rain #1, published in 2005 by Basement Comics, emerged as part of the long-running independent Cavewoman series created by writer and artist Budd Root. The series centers on Meriem Cooper, a character defined by her survival in a prehistoric landscape filled with dinosaurs and various threats. This specific spin-off mini-series was developed to expand upon the core mythos Root established in the early 1990s, maintaining the title's signature focus on pulpy adventure and stylized anatomy.

The aesthetic of the series is rooted in the tradition of underground comix and classic adventure illustrations, prioritizing a dynamic, sketch-heavy art style that emphasizes action and character design. Budd Root’s work on the title gained a dedicated following within the direct market comic scene, celebrated for its consistency in tone and its specific niche appeal. While the series was often subject to intense scrutiny regarding its illustrative choices, it remained a staple for collectors of independent creator-owned titles throughout the mid-2000s.
