Chikarabito: Gōsō Jūrokketsu Chika-Zumō Kessen #2

Chikarabito: Gōsō Jūrokketsu Chika-Zumō Kessen was produced during a period in late 20th-century manga culture when high-intensity, combat-oriented sports series held a prominent place in the market. The series focuses on the dramatic and often visceral world of underground sumo, framing traditional martial discipline within a gritty, high-stakes narrative landscape. As the second installment, this issue continues the establishment of the central roster, detailing the specialized techniques and physical transformations characteristic of the title's characters.

The visual direction of the series leans into the bold, exaggerated aesthetic popular in period action manga, emphasizing the raw force and intense physical confrontation inherent to the sport. The character designs were crafted to distinguish each fighter through unique silhouettes and combat styles, reflecting the broader goal of balancing technical sumo history with the dramatic sensibilities of shonen storytelling. Upon its release, the series found a niche audience among readers who appreciated the fusion of stylized combat and sports-inspired competition.
