Classic X-Men #11

Released in 1987, Classic X-Men #11 served as a reprint vehicle for X-Men #104, originally published in 1977. Marvel introduced the Classic X-Men line to provide new readers access to the foundational Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum run, while simultaneously adding supplemental material to expand the lore. This specific issue features a new cover by artist Art Adams, whose work during this period was highly regarded for its intricate detail and dynamic composition, helping to modernize the visual identity of the series for 1980s audiences.

The added content in this issue includes a new backup story written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by John Bolton. These backup stories were designed to flesh out the backstories of the characters, specifically providing deeper character studies that the original 1970s pacing did not always allow. The inclusion of Bolton’s distinct, painterly art style marked a departure from the standard comic book aesthetic of the time, and the issue was generally well-received by fans who appreciated the value of the retrospective framing combined with fresh, high-quality supplemental content.
