Where it came from
Classic X-Men #30 was published by Marvel Comics in February 1989. The series was designed to reprint iconic early X-Men stories originally written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by John Byrne, providing a platform to present these foundational arcs to a new generation of readers while adding supplemental material. This specific issue features a cover by Arthur Adams, an artist celebrated for his intricate line work and dynamic character staging, which helped distinguish the reprints from the original publications.
The issue serves as a reprint of X-Men #124, originally released in 1979. This story arc is a significant entry in the 'Dark Phoenix' era, focusing on the team's encounter with the Imperial Guard in the Shi'ar galaxy. Arthur Adams's cover art for this reprint is frequently noted by collectors for its polished aesthetic, reflecting the high production standards Marvel applied to the Classic X-Men line to honor the legacy of the late seventies storylines.
