Where it came from
Commando: For Action and Adventure was launched in 1961 by D.C. Thomson & Co. as a pocket-sized war comic intended to provide inexpensive, fast-paced entertainment for young readers. Issue 5975, titled 'The Desert Fox's Folly,' follows the series' long-standing tradition of presenting standalone, action-oriented narratives focused on historical military conflicts, particularly those set during the Second World War.
The design of Commando issues is characterized by a distinctive, hand-painted cover art style that has been a hallmark of the publication for decades. These covers were traditionally produced by a dedicated stable of artists, such as Ian Kennedy or Keith Burns, who aimed to evoke the gritty intensity of combat. The series has historically been received as a staple of British boys' adventure fiction, noted for its consistent format, brevity, and enduring appeal among military history enthusiasts and comic collectors.
