Dare ga Okudera Shō wo Koroshita no ka? #1

Dare ga Okudera Shō wo Koroshita no ka? (Who Killed Shō Okudera?) was released in Japan as a serialized mystery narrative, characteristic of the psychological thriller manga genre that gained significant traction in late 20th-century seinen magazines. The title explores themes of institutional paranoia and urban alienation, centering on the titular character whose sudden demise triggers a complex investigation into the social hierarchies of his peers and superiors.

The series is noted for its stark, high-contrast illustration style, which prioritizes atmospheric tension over traditional action sequences. By utilizing cinematic paneling and expressive shadows, the artist sought to evoke a sense of voyeuristic suspense, inviting the reader to act as an unofficial detective. Upon its initial publication, it was recognized by critics for its deliberate pacing and its refusal to rely on common shōnen tropes, finding a niche audience among readers who preferred dense, dialogue-heavy investigative drama.
