Daredevil #263

Published in February 1989, Daredevil #263 is a notable installment from the acclaimed run helmed by writer Ann Nocenti and artist John Romita Jr. This issue continues the darker, politically charged narrative arc that defined Nocenti's tenure, placing Matt Murdock in the midst of complex moral dilemmas rather than traditional superhero conflicts. The creative team focused on exploring the systemic corruption of Hell's Kitchen, utilizing the medium to address social issues of the late 1980s.

John Romita Jr.'s interior art in this issue is frequently cited by collectors for its gritty, angular aesthetic, which perfectly complemented Nocenti's somber tone. His visual style during this period moved away from the more polished superhero depictions of the era, opting instead for a shadow-heavy atmosphere that grounded the character in a decaying urban landscape. The issue was well-received by fans and critics of the time for maintaining the high quality established by the legendary Frank Miller run while successfully pivoting toward a more experimental, character-driven direction.
