Daredevil #43

Published in August 1968, Daredevil #43 stands as a significant moment in the character's Silver Age history, occurring during the creative tenure of writer Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan. The issue continues the narrative progression of Matt Murdock as he balances his legal career with his vigilante identity, a core theme that defined the title's early psychological depth. It captures the transition of the series toward more atmospheric, urban storytelling that moved away from the more colorful, swashbuckling tone of its earliest appearances.

The artwork by Gene Colan, often inked by Vince Colletta in this era, is highly regarded for its moody, cinematic approach to panel layout and shadows. Colan’s distinct, fluid style helped solidify Daredevil's reputation as one of Marvel's most visually evocative titles. The issue was received as part of a run that helped ground the character in the gritty, noir-inspired streets of Hell's Kitchen, setting a tone that would influence later definitive runs by creators like Frank Miller.
