Where it came from
DC Comics Presents #25 was released in September 1980 as part of a long-running anthology series that focused on team-ups between Superman and other heroes across the DC Universe. This specific issue, written by Len Wein with art by Jim Starlin, features a pivotal crossover between Superman and the Martian Manhunter, placing it in the late Bronze Age of comics, a period defined by increasingly complex character dynamics and cosmic threats.
The cover art, illustrated by José Luis García-López, reflects the house style that defined DC's visual identity throughout the 1980s. García-López was highly regarded for his clean, iconic character renderings, which the publisher utilized extensively for licensing and style guides. The issue is noted for its high production quality and its contribution to the ongoing development of the Martian Manhunter's narrative status, which was evolving during this era as the character transitioned into more prominent ensemble roles.
