DC Finest: Harley Quinn: The Birth of the Mirth #1

DC Finest: Harley Quinn: The Birth of the Mirth #1 was published as part of DC Comics' DC Finest line, a series of comprehensive, chronological trade paperbacks designed to collect significant character runs and seminal storylines in a high-value, uniform format. This volume specifically gathers the earliest appearances of Harley Quinn, tracking her origins from her debut in the Batman: The Animated Series episode 'Joker's Favor' and her subsequent transition into the DC comic book universe through the foundational Batman: Mad Love one-shot.

The collection highlights the creative work of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, who co-created the character in 1992. Their intent was to provide a distinct, tragic, and often chaotic counterpart to the Joker, blending slapstick comedy with dark psychological underpinnings. The material included in this volume captures the character's initial reception, where she quickly evolved from a one-off henchwoman into one of the most recognizable and enduring icons in modern comic history, largely due to her complex moral ambiguity and compelling design.
