DC Pride: The Heart Wants #1

DC Pride: The Heart Wants #1 was released by DC Comics in 2024 as part of the publisher's ongoing commitment to expanding LGBTQ+ representation within its superhero universe. This anthology issue follows in the tradition of DC's annual Pride specials, which debuted in 2021 to provide a dedicated space for queer creators to tell stories featuring both established and new characters. The project was conceived to offer a more focused, narrative-driven exploration of queer romance, centering on the emotional depth of characters like Tim Drake and Connor Hawke.

The editorial direction for this issue leaned into themes of vulnerability and connection, commissioning a diverse array of writers and artists to craft intimate vignettes. The design and visual storytelling were intentionally varied to match the distinct tones of the featured couples, moving away from traditional action-heavy comic layouts to emphasize dialogue and character development. It was received as a significant milestone in DC's effort to integrate inclusive storytelling into the mainstream continuity, receiving positive critical attention for its earnest approach to non-heteronormative relationships.
