DC/Marvel: Superman/Spider-Man #1

Published in 1976, this historic crossover marked the first official collaboration between DC Comics and Marvel Comics. The project was initiated as a high-profile business venture to capitalize on the immense popularity of both publishers' flagship characters. Given the legal and corporate complexities of merging two distinct universes, the creative team focused on a plot that brought the two titans together against shared antagonists Lex Luthor and Doctor Octopus.

The issue was written by Gerry Conway and illustrated by Ross Andru, with Dick Giordano providing inks. The creative goal was to maintain the individual voices of the characters while navigating the logistical challenge of an inter-company team-up. Upon its release, it was received with massive commercial enthusiasm by the comic book industry and remains a landmark piece of mid-seventies pop culture, establishing the precedent for future multi-publisher crossover events.
