Death Vigil #1

Death Vigil #1 was released by Image Comics in 2014 as the debut of a creator-owned supernatural fantasy series. Written and illustrated by Stjepan Sejic, the title was conceived as a high-concept exploration of the afterlife where members of a secret organization serve as reapers tasked with protecting humanity from Eldritch horrors. The project grew out of Sejic's long-standing interest in mythology and character-driven storytelling, blending dark, visceral action with the expressive, painterly digital art style that had already earned him a significant following on social media platforms.

The series was developed with an emphasis on balancing grand-scale monster designs with intimate, often humorous character dynamics, centering on the protagonist Clara Graves. Upon its release, the first issue was well-received by fans of the gothic fantasy genre, who noted the distinctive visual aesthetic and the unique spin on the grim reaper archetype. While it started as a limited series, the artistic depth and world-building showcased in the inaugural issue established it as a notable entry in Image Comics' catalog of independent creator-led works.
