Die Bruderschaft der Stürme #1

Die Bruderschaft der Stürme, known in the original French as La Confrérie du Crabe, is a graphic novel series authored by Xavier Dorison with artwork by Matthieu Lauffray. Released in the early 2000s, the series draws heavily from historical intrigue and nautical adventure, specifically channeling the atmospheric tension of 18th-century maritime lore. The narrative follows a group of individuals linked by a mysterious conspiracy involving a hidden, monstrous threat beneath the sea.

Matthieu Lauffray’s artistic approach is characterized by a dark, cinematic quality that emphasizes the claustrophobia of shipboard life and the vast, unsettling mystery of the ocean. The series was well-received by European comic critics for its mature thematic depth and high production standards in visual storytelling. It stands as a significant example of modern Franco-Belgian adventure comics that prioritize mood and character-driven historical fiction.
