Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft, often abbreviated as DDSH, began its long-standing run in Germany in 1965. The series was designed to showcase longer, more complex comic stories by Carl Barks, which were previously underrepresented in the smaller, pocket-sized 'Lustiges Taschenbuch' format. By providing a larger format, the publisher allowed for better appreciation of Barks's detailed panel work and nuanced storytelling, which had already gained a dedicated cult following among German readers.
Issue #86, published during the 1980s, fits into the series' mission of curating the finest Duck adventures for a German audience. The design and presentation were overseen by the Ehapa editorial team, who sought to maintain the visual fidelity of the original American comics while adapting the text for German readers. The series remains highly regarded by collectors for its consistent quality and its role in cementing Carl Barks's reputation as the 'Good Duck Artist' within the European market.
