Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft, often abbreviated as DDSH, is a long-running German comic series published by Ehapa. Launched in the 1960s, the series was designed to provide a home for the works of legendary Disney artists such as Carl Barks, whose intricate and adventurous storytelling had previously been somewhat underserved in the German market. The format served as a premium showcase, elevating the status of Duck comics from simple ephemeral children's reading to a respected medium for fans and collectors alike.
Issue number 87 was produced within this established tradition of curating high-quality reprints and classic stories. The editorial philosophy behind the series has historically focused on highlighting the craft of the so-called 'Disney masters,' pairing Barks's iconic narratives with the visual sensibilities of artists like Daan Jippes or Vicar. Received primarily by a dedicated community of German-speaking enthusiasts, the issue represents the enduring effort to preserve the golden age of comic book storytelling through accessible, recurring softcover editions.
