Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft was a long-running German comic series published by Ehapa, originating in the mid-1960s to capitalize on the immense popularity of Carl Barks's Disney duck stories. Issue number 97, released in the early 1980s, fits into the series' mission of curating high-quality translations of classic American material, specifically focusing on the adventure-heavy, humor-infused style of storytelling that defined the Gold Key and Dell comic eras.
The design of these Sonderheft issues was functional and classic, featuring iconic, high-contrast cover art that highlighted Donald or Uncle Scrooge in typically chaotic situations. The series is widely regarded by German collectors as the premier vehicle for introducing European audiences to the intricate, witty scripts of Barks and later creators like Don Rosa, establishing a deep cultural legacy for Disney comics in Germany that persists to this day.
