Where it came from
Released in 1994, this three-issue limited series was published by Disney Comics during a period when the company was expanding its footprint in the monthly comic book market. The series was designed to bridge the narrative gap following the success of the 1989 feature film, offering fans additional adventures featuring Ariel and her companions under the sea.
The illustrations for this series adhered closely to the established aesthetic of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, focusing on the vibrant color palettes and expressive character designs that defined the movie. While the series was intended primarily for a younger demographic, it remains a notable example of the early 1990s effort to translate major animated properties into episodic print media, receiving modest recognition as a standard tie-in comic of its era.
