Electric Warrior #1

Electric Warrior #1, released in 1986, arrived as part of a wave of experimental DC Comics titles attempting to update science fiction concepts for a more cynical era of comic storytelling. Written by Doug Moench and illustrated by Jim Baikie, the series was designed to explore a dystopian future where superheroes are replaced by corporate-sponsored avatars of justice. The gritty, grounded aesthetic of the art was intended to contrast with the high-concept, often satire-heavy narrative that critiqued the commercialization of heroism.

The series was received as a cult curiosity, appreciated by those who enjoyed the subversion of traditional tropes but ultimately struggling to find a long-term audience in a market dominated by more established characters. Baikie’s stylized, stark visuals helped define the mood of the title, which remains a notable example of the creative risks DC took during the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths reorganization. It stands today as a distinct artifact of mid-1980s speculative fiction.
