Elementals #15

Elementals #15, published by Comico in 1987, serves as a pivotal installment in Bill Willingham’s groundbreaking series about a team of superheroes resurrected to combat supernatural threats. The series is often noted for its departure from standard industry tropes of the mid-1980s, favoring complex interpersonal dynamics and gritty, grounded storytelling. By the time this issue was released, Elementals had established a reputation for pushing the boundaries of the genre, blending urban fantasy with high-stakes action.

The issue features the distinct illustrative style associated with the title's tenure under Comico, characterized by dynamic compositions that lean into the darker, more mature themes Willingham crafted. As part of the wider Comico catalog, the book remains a representative piece of the independent comic boom, a period when smaller publishers successfully challenged the creative dominance of the larger established companies through experimental narratives and unique character-driven arcs.
