Where it came from
Elektra #9, released in 1997, is part of the second ongoing series featuring the Marvel Comics assassin. Published during a period when Marvel was exploring more mature and character-driven narratives, this issue was helmed by writer Peter Milligan and artist Mike Deodato Jr. The series sought to deconstruct the character's violent past and psychological state, moving away from simple superhero tropes to focus on the isolation and moral ambiguity inherent in her life as an operative.
The aesthetic of this series reflected the gritty, stylized sensibilities of late 90s comic book art, with Deodato Jr. utilizing heavy shadows and dramatic framing to emphasize Elektra's lethal grace. The narrative arc surrounding this period was met with interest for its departure from traditional action-heavy storytelling, aiming for a more introspective tone. While the series did not reach the same pop-culture saturation as her appearances in Daredevil, it remains a notable chapter for fans of the character's expanded solo bibliography.
