ElfQuest #14

ElfQuest #14 was published in 1980 as part of the original independent comic series created by Wendy and Richard Pini. Emerging during the late 1970s, the series broke ground by operating outside the traditional superhero-dominated model, establishing a dedicated fan base through its serialized, high-fantasy narrative. This specific issue continues the 'Kings of the Broken Wheel' arc, a pivotal storyline that expanded the lore of the World of Two Moons and introduced complex time-travel elements that tested the emotional stakes of the Wolfriders.

The visual identity of this issue reflects Wendy Pini’s distinct art style, which synthesized influences from classic fairy-tale illustrations and contemporary comic book layouts. The creative team aimed for a lush, character-driven aesthetic that emphasized fluid motion and expressive character work. Upon release, the issue was well-received by the existing community for its commitment to long-form storytelling and served as a testament to the viability of creator-owned, independent fantasy epics in an era where such projects faced significant distribution hurdles.
