ElfQuest: Kings of the Broken Wheel #9

ElfQuest: Kings of the Broken Wheel was a central limited series in the sprawling epic fantasy saga created by Wendy and Richard Pini. First appearing in 1978, the ElfQuest universe became one of the most successful independent comic book series in history, notable for its self-published origins and its focus on character-driven fantasy narrative rather than traditional superhero tropes. This specific nine-issue miniseries, published by WaRP Graphics in the early 1990s, served as a vital bridge in the series' complex timeline, resolving major plot threads regarding the Wolfriders and their ancient history.

Wendy Pini’s art style, characterized by a fluid, manga-influenced aesthetic, was essential to the series' enduring popularity and distinct visual identity. By the time Kings of the Broken Wheel was released, the series had garnered a devoted cult following that appreciated the Pinis' commitment to independent creator control. Issue number nine represents the dramatic conclusion of this arc, wrapping up a significant chapter of the overarching mythos that Pini meticulously developed over decades, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of independent fantasy comics.
