Where it came from
ElfQuest: Jink issue #9 was published in 1995 as part of the expansion of the ElfQuest universe under the WaRP Graphics banner. The series was designed to explore the futuristic setting of the World of Two Moons, focusing on the character Jink, a human living in a society heavily influenced by elf-descended rulers. This narrative arc provided a departure from the high-fantasy roots of the original series, shifting into a blend of cyberpunk and social commentary.
The character and visual identity of Jink were crafted by writer Wendy Pini and artist Dennis Fujitake. Fujitake's aesthetic was selected to establish a grittier, more kinetic tone suitable for the series' dystopian environment. While the ElfQuest franchise maintained a dedicated following, Jink #9 represents a specific effort to broaden the brand's scope by focusing on the sociopolitical friction between humans and elves in a non-traditional fantasy setting.
