ElfQuest: Siege at Blue Mountain #2

ElfQuest: Siege at Blue Mountain #2 was published in 1987 as part of the third major story arc of Wendy and Richard Pini’s long-running independent fantasy saga. Emerging from the self-publishing movement of the late 1970s, the series was designed by the Pinis to bridge the gap between traditional comic book aesthetics and complex, character-driven epic fantasy. This specific arc depicts the Wolfriders' harrowing journey to the mountain home of the Gliders, serving as a critical turning point in the series' exploration of cultural isolation and racial tension among the elven tribes.

The visual language of the issue remains true to Wendy Pini’s signature style, which emphasizes expressive, fluid linework and intricate character designs that prioritize emotional storytelling over conventional heroic tropes. Upon its release, the series was noted for its departure from standard genre conventions, earning a dedicated following for its sophisticated world-building and commitment to a continuous, non-rebooted narrative. It stands as a significant artifact of the independent comics boom, representing the era when creators began successfully retaining ownership and artistic control over their intellectual properties.
