ElfQuest: Siege at Blue Mountain #3

ElfQuest: Siege at Blue Mountain #3 was published in 1987 as part of the third major story arc of Wendy and Richard Pini’s landmark independent fantasy comic series. Coming out of the mid-1980s, this era of ElfQuest sought to expand the saga’s scope beyond the initial adventures of the Wolfriders, introducing the complex societal structures and hidden motivations of the Glider elves inhabiting the titular Blue Mountain. The narrative focus shifts toward political intrigue and the clash of cultures, reflecting the creators' desire to deepen the internal lore of the world they had established in the late 1970s.

The aesthetic of this issue remains consistent with Wendy Pini’s signature illustrative style, which blends intricate, flowing linework with high-fantasy sensibilities. As part of the Siege at Blue Mountain series, the artwork emphasizes the architectural contrast between the primitive forest life of the Wolfriders and the cold, crystalline sophistication of the Gliders. Upon its release, the series was well-received by the dedicated independent comics community, solidifying ElfQuest's reputation for sustaining a character-driven epic without the backing of major publishing houses.
